How Bail Works in LA County
LA County’s scale changes everything about release timing. Knowing which jail and which courthouse routes your case is the first step.
Los Angeles County operates the largest jail system in the United States. The downtown LA complex on Bauchet Street alone — Twin Towers Correctional Facility and Men’s Central Jail — holds roughly half the county’s pre-trial population. Century Regional Detention in Lynwood houses the women’s population. Smaller outlying facilities like Pitchess Detention Center and Mira Loma Detention Center handle the rest.
Volume changes the math. Booking, classification, and release each take longer at Twin Towers than at a smaller city jail like Long Beach or Torrance. If your loved one was arrested by a city police department that runs its own holding facility — Long Beach, Torrance, Pasadena, Burbank — we may be able to post bond before transfer downtown. Once they arrive at the Bauchet complex, release windows stretch.
Courthouses are split across 12 LA Superior Court districts. Downtown felonies arraign at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center; outlying cases route to Compton, Norwalk, Long Beach (Deukmejian), Torrance, Van Nuys, Pomona, and others. Coordinating bond paperwork against the right calendar can save 12+ hours.
California sets the bail bond premium at 10% by statute (Insurance Code § 1800.4) — the same with every licensed LA County bondsman. What changes is how fast we get you a real licensed agent on the phone, how transparent the paperwork is, and how well we know the LA jail system and court calendars.

California Law
Bail bond pricing in California is regulated by the Department of Insurance. The same rules apply at Twin Towers, the Foltz CJC, and every outlying LA courthouse.
California sets the bail bond premium between 8% and 10% of the total bond. Any LA County bondsman charging less without a filed rate plan is operating outside the law — a regulatory violation, not a discount.
California bail bond contracts must include a clear, written breakdown of the premium, finance charges, and indemnitor obligations. We send the full agreement before you sign — nothing buried, no surprise fees after posting.
California voters rejected SB 10 in 2020, keeping the cash bail system in place statewide. LA Superior Court still uses the published LA County Felony Bail Schedule — and a licensed bondsman remains the fastest path to release.
